
Keeping Your Bathroom Heater Safe (And Your Toes Warm)
Putting an infrared heater in a bathroom is a bit of a battle against steam and splashes. If you don’t get the safety side of things right, you’re basically asking for a short circuit. For us, it really comes down to two things: keeping the seals tight and making sure the housing can handle the electricity without leaking. Dealing with the damp Steam is sneaky. It gets into everything. To stop it from ruining the electronics, we rely on high-temp silicone gaskets and IPX4-rated enclosures. Now, the quartz glass tube itself is great at insulating, but the real danger is where the wires connect. That’s why we use ceramic insulators on the terminals. It keeps the current where it belongs. And please, make sure the grounding wire is bonded straight to the metal frame. If something does go wrong, you want that breaker to trip immediately. Heat, moisture, and the “pop” We stick with shortwave infrared lamps. Why? Because they heat you, not the humid air around you. This is a big deal because it keeps the walls cooler, which means less condensation dripping onto the electrical bits. We also seal the quartz envelopes with high-grade alloys. If even a tiny bit of moisture sneaks into that halogen gas fill, the filament will toast itself in a matter of hours. Not a good look. The actual installation You can’t just wire these up and call it a day. Your junction box needs to be airtight. I always suggest using heat-shrink tubing with adhesive linings for any external connections. It’s the only way to be sure. One last thing: these are built for humidity, but they aren’t waterproof. They can’t go for a swim. If you mount the heater too close to the showerhead, a stray splash of cold water on a hot tube can cause it to crack instantly from the thermal shock. Give it at least 60cm of breathing room from any direct spray. It saves you from broken glass and scary electrical arcs.
