If you mount them too close to the ceiling, you’re basically creating a heat trap. Give it some breathing room You really want about 0.5 to 1.5 meters of space between the heater and the ceiling. It depends on how powerful the unit is, but the logic is simple. If it’s too close, that energy hits the ceiling instead of the people below. That’s how you end up with scorched paint or, worse, warped materials. Nobody wants to look up and see a brown singe mark on their ceiling. Plus, while the heat is aimed down, the heater itself still gets hot. If there’s no headspace, that heat just pools at the top of the room. It makes the whole place feel stifling and oppressive rather than cozy. Dealing with tight spaces Those high-wattage shortwave lamps are great because they warm up a freezing locker room in seconds. It’s an instant win for the users. But because they’re so powerful, they run incredibly hot. You can’t just tuck them into a tight soffit unless you’ve got some serious ventilation going on. The reflector narrows the beam, keeping the heat off the ceiling and putting it exactly where it belongs—on the people. A few things to check before you wire it up Take a look at what your ceiling is actually made of. Metal reflects more heat back down, which is great for efficiency, but it can make the fixture itself overheat if you aren’t careful. Drywall tends to soak up more of that heat. And one last tip: check your mounting brackets. Make sure they can actually handle the heat. There’s nothing worse than a heater that starts sagging after a few months because the brackets couldn’t take the temperature.
