Let’s be honest: outdoor electric heaters have a rough life. They’re stuck in a constant battle between searing heat at the element and damp, salty or humid air hitting the wires. Most of the cheap heaters you find on the market fail for the same annoying reason. The seal where the wire meets the heating element just gives up. It cracks. Once that happens, moisture sneaks in, and before you know it, you’ve got a short circuit or a rusted-out connection. The real problem? Cheap glue. A lot of manufacturers use basic silicone or some low-grade adhesive to hold things together. But infrared lamps go through a brutal cycle of heating up and cooling down. That constant shifting makes cheap insulation brittle. It snaps. When you mix those tiny cracks with outdoor humidity, you’ve basically built a highway for electricity to leak. It’s not just a nuisance—it’s a genuine fire risk. How we do it differently We stopped just “gluing” wires a long time ago. Instead, we use a multi-step process that actually holds up. We use high-temperature ceramic potting and heat-shrink sleeves that can handle over 200°C. It creates a tight, airtight seal. No water gets in, and oxygen can’t get to the junction to eat away at the metal. Plus, it means the wire won’t accidentally pull loose when the metal expands from the heat or when someone’s installing it. One thing to keep in mind… There is a trade-off. This kind of heavy-duty sealing makes the lead wire a bit stiffer. You can’t just bend these wires at a sharp 90-degree angle. If you do, you might crack the potting compound. Just make sure you leave a little bit of slack in your housing to give the wire room to breathe. If you’re putting a heater in a rainy or damp spot and you go with the basic seals, you’re basically planning for a failure. If you want it to actually last, industrial-grade sealing is the only way to go. Your peace of mind is worth it.
