
Why your bathroom heater keeps dying (and how to fix it)

That’s why we’ve been moving toward IP65-rated infrared heaters. It sounds technical, but it’s actually pretty simple: it’s about keeping water out of the electronics.
The battle against steam
Here’s the thing about bathrooms: steam isn’t just “air.” It condenses. Those tiny droplets settle on cold surfaces and find their way into the wiring of a standard heater. Once that happens, you’re looking at a short circuit or a dead element. An IP65 rating basically means the unit is sealed tight. We use gaskets and sealed cable entries to make sure the guts of the heater stay bone-dry, no matter how much steam you’re pumping into the room.
Heat you can actually feel
Most heaters try to warm up the air. The problem? Air moves. If you’ve got a drafty bathroom, that warmth just disappears. Infrared is different. It sends heat in a straight line. It hits your skin or the floor directly, like sunlight hitting you through a window. You feel it instantly. No waiting around for the room to “warm up” while you’re shivering in a towel.
A few things to keep in mind
It’s not magic, though. Since the heat is directional, placement is everything. If you just slap it anywhere, you’ll end up with “cold spots” where the heat doesn’t reach. You’ve got to be intentional about where it goes. Also, these units pull a decent amount of power. Just double-check that your circuit can handle the load so you aren’t tripping the breaker every time you want a warm morning.
Setting it up
We kept the footprint small so they actually fit into tight ceiling grids without looking clunky. And because everything is sealed, you don’t have to worry about the humidity eating away at the reflectors over time. Just wire it into a GFCI-protected circuit, and you’re set. It handles the moisture without the scary electrical risks that come with the cheap stuff.
