
Why Your Bathroom Heater Shouldn’t Blind You
Most short-wave infrared lamps are basically light cannons. They blast out a huge spectrum of light that’s honestly blinding. In a bathroom, that’s a problem—especially if you’re bathing a baby. No one wants a screaming infant because the light is too harsh for their eyes. So, we changed how the light works.
Keeping it gentle on the eyes
We added a special coating to the quartz glass. Think of it like a pair of sunglasses for the lamp. Instead of just dimming the light, this coating selectively blocks those piercing blue peaks and the glare that makes you squint. The heat still gets through perfectly, but the light changes. You get this soft, warm glow instead of a surgical white light. It feels cozy. More importantly, it means you can warm up a child without worrying about overstimulating them or straining their eyes.
The tech side of the heat
Under the hood, these use halogen-filled quartz tubes. Halogen is the secret sauce here because it lets the filament run hotter, giving you more warmth for every watt of power. It’s fast. Really fast. We’re talking full heat in under three seconds. Now, because of that protective coating I mentioned, you might notice the heat isn’t quite as intense as a totally clear tube. It’s a tiny trade-off, but it’s the only way to keep things safe for a home environment.
A few tips for installing
When you’re putting these into a fixture, give the lamp some breathing room. These things throw heat in a very tight beam. If your reflector is slightly off, you’ll end up with a hot spot on your ceiling, which isn’t ideal. And a pro tip: use high-temp wiring. You don’t want your insulation melting near the socket. Also, double-check your power supply. If the voltage isn’t stable, the lamp might flicker, and that’s just annoying.
