
Keeping Bathrooms Warm Without Blinding Your Kids
When you’re designing an infrared heater for a bathroom, a waterproof seal is just the starting point. The real challenge is a bit of a physics puzzle. You want that deep, cozy heat, but you can’t have it coming with a side of blinding glare or UV rays—especially if there’s a baby in the tub. No one wants a heater that feels like a heat lamp at a reptile zoo. The secret is in the light. Most basic infrared lamps throw out a huge range of light. To stop that “staring into the sun” feeling, we use special quartz coatings or doped filaments. Basically, these filters tweak the light. They scrub out the harsh UV and the high-frequency glare, leaving you with a soft, warm glow. You feel the heat on your skin, but your eyes stay relaxed. Then there’s the water problem. Water and electricity are a terrible mix. That’s why we stick to IP65 standards. In plain English? The thing is dust-tight and can take a direct spray of water from any angle without flinching. Inside, we use a halogen-filled quartz tube. The halogen gas is the magic ingredient here—it lets the filament run hot enough to actually warm you up without burning itself out in a month. We also obsess over the small stuff, like high-temp gaskets and sealed cable entries. If a seal leaks, the lamp shorts out or the housing starts to rust. Not a great look. Now, here’s the trade-off. Filtering out those harsh light waves does cost a little bit of power. You might lose about 5-10% of the raw heat compared to some industrial lamp used in a warehouse. But in a home bathroom? That’s a trade we’ll make every single time for the sake of safety. One last tip: make sure your wiring is up to the task. These heaters have a bit of a “surge” when they first kick on, and you don’t want to be standing in a towel when the breaker trips.
